You want to lose weight? Get healthy? Make lifestyle changes? Well, I’ve got news for you…it’s not easy. In fact, it can be pretty dang hard most of the time. Hate to break it to ya, but there are no magic pills, magic diets, or magic creams that you can rub on at night and be 10 lbs lighter in the morning. It just doesn’t work that way!! There are 3500 calories in 1 lb. Just to put it into perspective, a burger, fries, and shake can come in at over 1000 calories. Running for an hour will burn maybe 500 calories. It’s a lot easier and definitely more enjoyable to put down that meal than to put on your running shoes. No wonder so many people are overweight these days! It really is simple math. Calories going in have to be less than calories going out.

To lose weight you have to be dedicated and serious. You have to know what you want and why you want it, set realist goals, and work your behind off to get it. One way that I have found helpful in avoiding eating too much sugary goodness was to change my environment. It was so easy to snack on cookie dough, ice cream, and candy when it was around the house all the time…especially around the holidays. It was just sitting there waiting to be eaten! My husband mentioned to me that it might be a good idea to just get rid of all the junk. What a fabulous idea! Of course I already knew this…but let’s face it…I LOVE chocolate. It was hard for me to throw away candy, cookie dough and ice cream. But you know what? Once it was gone I couldn’t eat it anymore! You can do this too. If you are serious about a lifestyle change you need to change the environment around you. Get rid of the junk food! Have fruits and veggies readily available to snack on. Am I saying avoid all sugary goodness? Heck no?! In fact, last night we had family over and ate brownies and ice cream. Healthy? No. Amazingly good? Yes! It’s okay to indulge every once in awhile. Just make it a treat for special occasions. Ready to get serious about this? Get rid of the junk!

Good job on this babe! Environment change really is the key. Most people don't understand that they keep going in the cycle of trying to be good for a few days and then losing all self-confidence when they indulge for a few days, then re-commit to be “good” again. The cycle repeats. This is insane! Why do people believe they can keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result? Please make drastic lifestyle changes and you will see drastic results. All in the long-run, remember!

Actually there is a magic method.. go mountaineering, or live an active lifestyle, which is 100% different than “a exercise routine.” There's no such thing as enough calories for climbing, or any hard exercise actually, you are in a huge deficit no matter what. Oh, and building muscle not only requires serious calories for days, but simply maintaining it takes heaps of calories too.. How bout instead of feeling pressured to run, go mountain biking, hiking, surfing or kayaking among other fun things.. hmm I eat as much as humanly possible and I still lose weight when I exercise.. Just writing this is making me hungry, as I haven't eaten in at least an hour and a half! I'm thinking a steak burrito with nice n greasy hash browns…

    HandJamMaster,
I'm glad you've found a way to stay fit! I too agree that there are many ways to be active…I myself don't like running. Keep it up!
